A process with a common thread across very different industries
Fiber optics, medical devices, hydraulic fittings, and lock hardware don't have much in common on the surface. But look at the components each industry needs, and a pattern emerges: small parts, tight tolerances, and geometry too complex to trust to multiple setups. That pattern is exactly what pulls all of these industries toward the same manufacturing process, even though their end products look nothing alike.
Fiber optics: where microns are the whole job
Fiber-optic connectors and ferrules live or die on concentricity — how precisely a bore aligns with the outside diameter that holds the connector in place. A few ten-thousandths of misalignment can measurably degrade signal transmission. These are also often very small parts, which makes the deflection-control advantage of a guide bushing especially valuable: there's very little material to work with, and even less room for error.
Medical: traceability meets tight tolerance
Medical device components combine two demands that are hard to satisfy separately: tolerances tight enough to guarantee fit and function, and a manufacturing process consistent enough to be trusted lot after lot. Single-chucking machining helps on both fronts — fewer setups means fewer variables to control and document, and the tolerances Swiss machines can hold are well suited to the small, multi-feature geometry common in medical hardware.
Military and hydraulic: durability under stress
Military and defense-adjacent hardware and hydraulic components share a different pressure: parts have to perform reliably under mechanical stress, and dimensional consistency has to hold up across a full production lot, not just the first article. A hydraulic fitting with an out-of-spec sealing surface doesn't just fail an inspection — it leaks in the field. The same single-setup precision that helps a medical part fit correctly helps a hydraulic part seal correctly.
Home security, hand tools, and the rest: complexity at volume
Lock hardware, hand tools, and similar mechanical products often need several features — cross-holes, broached slots, multiple diameters — machined onto one small part, and they need it done economically across meaningful production volumes. This is where Swiss machining's efficiency at scale complements its precision: the same process that holds tight tolerance on a prototype quantity keeps holding it as the order grows into the thousands.
